It was designed to do what I'm doing with it. The laptop I'm using is a 2.5k dollar laptop. I honestly don't understand how people can just be okay with this. If you undervolt you drop the temps by roughly 10 deg C, 15 if it's the first step you take, but that leaves you at roughly 95 deg C, which is still well within the danger zone for any laptop specific CPU. Both of these fans operate on the same heat pipes, so there's no way that this fan wouldn't be able to solve the problem, if it just operated at the same response curve as the other fan.Īlso, the problem isn't solved with an undervolt. The highest speeds I've been able to get this fan up to was 312 rpm, and that was when my CPU was at 111 deg C. The inside of the device has two fans, one sits at an idle 2k rpm, the other sits at 200 rpm. They lock the fans so you'll have to take complex measures to protect your device, and they engineer it to break after your warranty expires so you'll have to pay for repairs, or get a new device. Yeah, but do you not see how undervolting is far more complex than just making the fans move faster? This was a deliberate attempt by HP to limit the lifespan of your device.
